When Albert Edward LANDES was born on December 31, 1882, in Brazil, Indiana, his father, Edward LANDES, was 38 and his mother, Hanah (a/k/a Hannah Jane CHADWICK) Hanna, the daughter of John CHADWICK and Margaret POFF, was 28 years old. Albert was one of four children of Edward and Hannah. His siblings were Lottie, Margaret and John (d. 1923). John also had a son he named Albert (2011), which led to the confusion with the two Albert LANDES. Albert married Bessie L. HAYES about 1900. Four children were born to them in thirteen years: Norma, Cleo (my grandfather), Thelma and Harold. Thelma married Joseph MILLER, Cleo married Orilla MYRICK, Norma married James P. DIVINE, Harold married Elsie WILLINGHAM. Albert died on August 12, 1945, in Terre Haute, Indiana, at the age of 62. Submitted by Jana WELLS. The story from the family about Albert was that they lived in Clay City; he was working in the mines and selling his produce. They were very poor, but he finally made enough money that he was able to buy a house on Barbour Street in Terre Haute and with his huckster van was able to sell enough goods to make a living there.
