100 Year-old
Marriage License
Restored to Sherb Family
When Mark McCOMBS and Beth VanHOOSIER of Wabash, Indiana, went to a
flea market in Sydney, Indiana, last fall they were not looking for
genealogy materials, but an old marriage license caught their eye.
Little did they know that several months later they would meet the great
niece and nephew of Pearl A. SCHERB and Anna M. MILLER who were married
23 October 1900 in Clay County, Indiana. Mark & Beth were excited by
their unusual find and hoped they could locate the descendents of Pearl
and Anna, who had been married several counties south of Sydney,
Indiana.
After looking on the Internet and finding our CCGS web site, Mark began
making phone calls trying to contact anyone that might know something
about the Scherb family. With the help of Carolyn BRANSON and
Alice Ann COURTNEY, descendants of Pearl and Anna SHERB were located in
Indianapolis and Sullivan, Indiana. Finally on May 1st Mark & Beth were
able to present the family heirloom to John M. ELLINGTON and his sister,
Patricia A. Ellington QUATTROCCHI. Pearl SCHERB’s sister, Ella Mae
SCHERB, was John and Patricia’s paternal grandmother.
