Need Help in
Identifying Gentlemen Believed to be Civil War Veterans

The picture above is
of a Civil War Veterans reunion. The person in the middle of the
front row is Henry WC MILLER. We do not know any of the
other gentlemen. Henry WC MILLER was in Company F, 31st
Regiment of Indiana Volunteers. The Captain of Company F was John
T. SMITH and may very well be one of the men in the
picture. Henry WC MILLER and his family lived in Howesville,
Indiana until 1896 when he moved to Coal City where he died. If

to us from New Mexico. The gentleman holding the cane and seated
second from the right in the front row is Watkin Jones LEWELLYN.

The name of the gentleman seated is not known. The children's

Mudsock School District # 1
Kim Sedgwick, the daughter of Thelma Louise
Smith-Sedgwick, who was one of Letitia Whetsel and Bob H. Smith
daughters, submitted the 1907 Mudsock School picture. . Mudsock
School was located in Sugar Ridge Township where Center Point is
located. There is no further information about the school at the
library; we would welcome any information readers might have
that we could add to the library’s file of early Clay County
Schools.
