The Ancestors of Charles Sheldon MAXEY 1906 – 1995; compiled by Jeannette Spangler
Maxey 2010. Spiral bound, 118-page book with index and endnotes. Some of the surnames in the book are: BOWLES, CHASTAIN, COTTRELL, EBERT, EPPERT, FORD, FREY, HARPOLD, KIRK, MASON, MYERS, REEVE, STEWART, WELLS, and WILKINS. There are photographs, copies of obituaries, pedigree charts and much more. Excerpt from author’s introduction: “For the first Charles Sheldon MAXEY book, which I wrote in 2001, I decided to limit it to the first 5 generations I had researched. Now, I have taken the ancestors of Sheldon MAXEY back 11 generations; with some of the lines I have found arriving in what is now the United States in the 1600’s.”

The PECKHAM Family by Charles Wesley Peckham Sr., Ed. D., 2009. This well-researched book contains 833 pages with an additional 69-page index. The Peckham Family includes 13 generations beginning in England. A few of the many surnames indexed include: ADAMS, ANDERSON, BARKER, BENNETT, BREWER, BROWN, CARPENTER, CHURCH, CLARK, CLARKE, REYNOLDS, THOMPSON, TAYLOR, SLOCUM, and MYERS.
Excerpt from Chapter 1: “The ancient chronicles of England reveal the early records of the name of PECKHAM as a Norman surname which ranks as one of the oldest. The history of the name is closely interwoven within the majestic tapestry as an intrinsic part of the history of Britain. Duke William (The Conqueror) took a census of most of England in 1086, and recorded it in the Doomsday Book. …The surname PECKHAM emerged as a notable family in the county of Kent where they were recorded as a family of great antiquity seated as lords of the manor and estates in that shire.” The Library also has Mr. PECKHAM’s corrected Index for The Peckham Family Genealogy, which was made necessary by a computer glitch in the original index that caused the names and page numbers to be jumbled.

LAWSON/SLACK FUNERAL HOME RECORDS

Our society is indebted to the FRENCH family and to Grace COHN. When the French family took over management of LAWSON/SLACK Funeral Home, they gave us access to many of their old records. This is valuable material for researchers. Grace COHN has transferred information we are allowed to give the public onto file cards. She has nearly completed the task, and the cards are in our Funeral Home File. Handwriting all that information has taken much, much time! We hope you will come
check out this addition to our resources. When you do, please keep in mind the generosity of the French family and the diligence of Grace.
