Books at the Library
The following list is a brief overview of the books in the library: General reference
including such books as Historical Register and Dictionary of the United States Army
1787-1903; Genealogical Research Directory, County Courthouse Book; and
List of Emigrants to America 1600-1700.
Records include Clay County Marriages, Naturalization,
Death, Birth, and Census. There are cemetery records organized by township, Clay County
histories, family histories, and a special collection of histories of the counties of
Indiana. There are also books and newsletters from the following states: Georgia,
Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio,
Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington.
Card Files Available in the Library
When you visit the library, be sure to check out the card catalog file cabinet in the
center of the library. It houses the following informational files: Obituaries of Clay
County; Burial information from the following Clay County Funeral Homes: Schoppenhorst,
Rentschler, Miller & Sons, and Fox Funeral Home (Riley, IN, in Vigo County). There is
also an extensive card file of the burials in Clay County Cemeteries, a Family History
Index of the family histories on our shelves; and Family File Cards which include such
information as birth & death date; place of birth, and the mother, father, wife or
husband of the deceased.
