PETITION TO STOP BUILDING OF COURT HOUSE

Bowling Green, Indiana, 1851

The following petition was taken from pages 24 and 25 of the Commissioners Book at the Clay County Court House, Brazil, Indiana. On December 20, 1851, Jonathan Rimes submited the following petition which was read and recorded:

To the County Commissioners of the County of Clay, State of Indiana: Gentlemen, We the undersigned citizens of Clay County Indiana solomenly remonstrate to your body that you stop all further action in respect to the rebuilding of a Court House in the Town of Bowling Green for the present as we believe that a large majority of the citizens of Clay County are strongly opposed to the erection of said house at that ____.
